carbon charter
We recognise the environmental impact of live events and technical production. While our work often involves transport and energy use, we believe that taking responsibility — even at a small scale — matters.
This charter sets out the principles guiding how we minimise our carbon footprint and operate with greater environmental awareness.
1. efficient transport
Jobs are planned to reduce unnecessary mileage, using regional bases to serve local areas wherever possible.
Routes are consolidated to avoid multiple journeys for single events.
We prioritise fuel-efficient vehicles and avoid long-haul delivery unless absolutely necessary.
2. durable equipment
We invest in long-life, repairable equipment from trusted manufacturers, avoiding cheap, short-term kit.
Equipment is maintained properly to extend its lifespan and avoid waste.
Systems are specified based on real need — avoiding unnecessary power consumption or oversized setups.
3. low-energy systems
We use modern speaker and amplification systems designed for efficiency without compromising sound quality.
Battery-powered devices are used sparingly and managed responsibly.
LED lighting is used for any supplementary production where required.
4. minimal packaging and waste
Reusable cable ties, cases, and transport packaging are standard.
We avoid single-use plastics and unnecessary branded materials.
Gaffer tape, batteries, and other consumables are used sparingly and disposed of properly.
5. local partnerships
We work with local technicians and providers to reduce travel and support sustainable, place-based delivery.
We only work with companies and individuals who share our values around environmental responsibility and professional standards.
Wherever possible, we collaborate with those who also seek to reduce their impact and operate with care and integrity.
6. standards-based practice
For live events, we draw on the guidance in the Theatre Green Book to align our work with recognised industry standards on sustainability.
This includes considering material use, transport, power draw, and the afterlife of equipment and packaging — regardless of how short or long the event might be.
7. ongoing measurement & commitment
Soundwerks Ltd. is a member of the SME Climate Hub, and we use their carbon tracking tools to monitor and reduce our emissions year by year.
We are committed to making practical changes based on real data — not claims or offsets.
This process holds us accountable and helps identify the areas where we can make the most impact.
We don’t buy into offsetting schemes — we focus on reducing emissions at source.
For clients planning low-impact or outdoor events, we’re always happy to discuss how we can support those aims.
